James Ortiz, the voice actor behind Rocky in ‘Project Hail Mary,’ is set to be submitted for an Oscar in the supporting actor category. Ortiz, a stage performer and master puppeteer, brought the spider-like alien to life through intricate puppetry and vocal performance. According to Variety, Ortiz is eligible for an Oscar consideration based on the current rules. His work is also eligible for the Actor Awards and the Critics Choice Awards, but not the Golden Globes.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, ‘Project Hail Mary’ stars Ryan Gosling as an astronaut who wakes up on a space station with no recollection of who he is or what his mission is. The film is out in cinemas now. Gosling recently spoke about the movie and his gothic noughties folk duo Dead Man’s Bones, sharing stories about the film’s karaoke scene and his co-star Sandra Hüller’s singing performance. With Ortiz’s potential Oscar nomination, ‘Project Hail Mary’ continues to make waves in the film industry.
