Emily Saliers, one-half of the Indigo Girls, has revealed that she’s facing two incurable medical conditions that will affect her vocal performance on the duo’s upcoming tour. Saliers shared the news in a post on the band’s Instagram account, explaining that she’s been diagnosed with cervical dystonia and essential tremor. She stated that the conditions get incrementally worse over time and will impact her singing voice.
In a video recorded during tour rehearsals, Saliers explained that her voice will not be what it once was due to the conditions. She detailed her treatment plan, which includes therapeutic massage, physical therapy, and Botox shots, and expressed her gratitude for the support of her bandmate Amy Ray and fans. The Indigo Girls are set to launch a U.S. tour, and Saliers assured fans that they will do everything possible to make the songs sound as good as they can, despite her diagnoses.
