StubHub has agreed to pay $10 million to settle accusations by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that the ticket platform failed to properly disclose fees and charges. The FTC alleged that StubHub had “unfairly and deceptively hidden and misrepresented the price of its tickets” by tacking on fees and other charges later in a transaction, violating new federal rules imposed last May that require “all-in” pricing on ticket platforms.
The case was sparked by StubHub’s decision to delay compliance with the rules for three days, until after the NFL’s annual release of tickets. The $10 million settlement will be used to fund a refund program for certain fans who purchased tickets during the three-day window. StubHub has stated that it supports all-in pricing and is addressing the FTC’s concerns by refunding a portion of buyers’ fees, despite disagreeing with the agency’s view of the case.
