Police are investigating chants of ‘death to the IDF’ allegedly made by Bob Vylan frontman Bobby Vylan at a protest in London. The Metropolitan Police stated they were ‘aware of chanting made by a speaker at the Al Quds protest and will be investigating.’ The event, held in celebration of Al-Quds Day, drew hundreds of attendees waving Iranian flags and holding placards. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood had formally banned the Al-Quds Day march due to a high risk of ‘serious public disorder’ amid ongoing Middle East tensions.
Videos on social media appeared to show Vylan leading the crowd in the ‘death, death to the IDF’ chant. Police confirmed 12 arrests during the demonstration for various offenses, including support for a proscribed organization and threatening behavior. The Met acknowledged concerns from London’s Jewish communities and noted that previous instances of similar language did not meet the criminal threshold for prosecution. This incident follows a similar one at Glastonbury 2025, where Bob Vylan led chants of ‘death, death to the IDF,’ which was subject to a dropped criminal investigation.
