Michael Stipe, the iconic lead vocalist of R.E.M., has provided an update on his highly anticipated debut solo album. In a recent interview with The Times, Stipe admitted that the album has taken longer to complete than he initially desired. The delays were partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and his own need for a break after R.E.M.’s amicable split in 2011. Stipe has been working on the album for several years, and despite the challenges, he is determined to create something great.
Stipe revealed that he has eight songs left to finish before the album is complete and is working towards a deadline, hoping to release it before the end of 2026. He also expressed his excitement and nervousness about the project, acknowledging the high bar set by his work with R.E.M. With previous solo releases like ‘Your Capricious Soul’ and collaborations with other artists, fans are eagerly awaiting Stipe’s solo debut, which may be titled ‘Meet THE Michael Stipe’. Stipe remains on good terms with his former bandmates and has made appearances with them, including a surprise performance at their Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in 2024.
