Michael Stipe, the legendary R.E.M. frontman, has suggested that Billie Eilish could play a younger version of himself in a potential biopic. The idea came up during his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where Colbert jokingly suggested David Cross to play the bearded Stipe. However, when considering who could play his younger self, Stipe proposed Billie Eilish, citing their similar blue eyes. Colbert agreed, and Stipe shared a brief encounter with Eilish at a Manhattan restaurant, where she held the door for him.
Stipe has been working on his first full solo album, which is expected to be released in 2026. He recently gave a live debut to a new solo song, ‘The Rest Of Ever’, and has been collaborating with other artists, including Andrew Watt, Josh Klinghoffer, and Travis Barker. Stipe remains on good terms with his former R.E.M. bandmates and has made appearances with them, including a surprise acoustic performance at their Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in 2024.
