Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja has shared a statement after being arrested at a Palestine Action protest in Trafalgar Square. Del Naja was among hundreds of demonstrators who gathered to protest the ban on Palestine Action. He was carried away by police and arrested on suspicion of showing support for a proscribed organisation. In his statement, Del Naja slammed the ‘draconian government’ and expressed his opposition to genocide, saying ‘the sense of madness can be overcome’.
Del Naja’s arrest came after he held up a sign that read ‘I Oppose Genocide, I Support Palestine Action’. He has since spoken out against the government’s policies, saying that ‘everyone knows this is total madness’. Massive Attack has been a long-time supporter of the Palestinian cause, and has boycotted performing in Israel since 1999. Del Naja’s statement has been met with support from fans and fellow artists, who are calling for an end to the ‘war is peace’ ideology and for the government to uphold international laws.
