James Blake has claimed that 95 per cent of his production work has been unpaid. The Grammy-winning artist, who recently released his seventh studio album ‘Trying Times’, made this revelation in a new interview with Rolling Stone. Blake is a highly regarded producer, having worked on projects including Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’, Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’, Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’, and Rosalía’s ‘Motomami’.
Blake explained that producers often don’t get paid by the hour, resulting in a significant amount of unpaid work. He stated that he has spent thousands of hours on projects that never saw the light of day. Despite this, Blake emphasized his passion for creating music, which drives him to continue producing. He has announced a UK and European tour for later this year, kicking off with a headline performance at the O2 Academy Brixton in London on September 29.
