Alabama Shakes has made a triumphant return with their new single ‘American Dream’, a howling and politically charged track that laments the current state of life in the US. The song, which features poignant lyrics such as ‘Low grade fever, lower wage people/How many folks got shot this week?’, sees lead singer Brittany Howard digging deep to comment on the struggles of modern America.
The band’s return comes after a hiatus that began in 2018, during which time Howard released two solo studio albums. ‘American Dream’ is a snapshot of what we’re living through in 2026, according to Howard, who hopes the song will serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by the country. Alabama Shakes will be supporting the single with an extensive US tour, as well as shows in the UK, including dates in Leeds and London.
