Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, has filed a federal lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The lawsuit seeks $100 million in damages, stating that Lanez should not have been housed with a fellow inmate who stabbed him 16 times last year. The inmate, Santino Casio, used a homemade ‘shank’ in the ‘unprovoked life-threatening attack’ that left Lanez with a collapsed lung and required him to be airlifted to a hospital.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after a high-profile trial in 2022. The lawsuit alleges that prison officials were aware of the potential danger of housing Casio with Lanez, given Casio’s history of violence and Lanez’s ‘high-profile celebrity status’ that made him a target. The lawsuit also claims that correctional officers responded slowly to the attack and that Lanez’s songbooks with unpublished lyrics were unlawfully seized and not returned.
