Zac Brown’s music has literally reached new heights with the Artemis II space mission playing his song ‘Free’ for the astronauts on board. The 2010 Zac Brown Band hit, which reached No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, was played to wake up the crew for another day of work. Brown personally recorded a message for the astronauts, expressing his pride and admiration for their courage and grit.
Brown’s message was followed by a feel-good track that aimed to start the day with the right kind of lift. The singer and his wife, Kendra Scott, shared a video of the historic moment on Instagram, reacting to the news and expressing their honor at being part of the mission. Brown is now one of the select few musicians whose songs have been played in space, with the Artemis II astronauts waking up to his song and other tracks like ‘Pink Pony Club’ by Chappell Roan and ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen and David Bowie.
