Erasure’s Vince Clarke, Blancmange’s Neil Arthur, and electronic producer Benge have formed a new band called Doublespeak to cover classic and cult songs. The roots of the new synth pop supergroup date back to 2017 when Arthur suggested joining forces with Clarke to put a unique spin on their favorite songs from the past four decades. They then brought Benge into the lineup, following his collaboration with Arthur on the Fader project.
Their self-titled debut album, set to release on May 29, features 11 tracks, including songs from post-punk bands like Fad Gadget and Young Marble Giants, as well as iconic pop artists like ABBA and Carpenters. The album is described as a shadow autobiography of their own musical education, with the trio sharing their excitement about reimagining these classic songs with a new analogue electronica feel. Doublespeak has shared the first taster of the record, releasing their take on Fad Gadget’s ‘Back To The Nature’.
