Bad Bunny is seeking reimbursement for his $466,000 legal bill after winning a lawsuit over a sample on his album ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’. The lawsuit, filed by emPawa Africa, claimed that Bad Bunny failed to clear the sample for the song ‘Enséñame a Bailar’, which allegedly used a sample from Nigerian songwriter Dera’s 2019 song ‘Empty My Pocket’. However, Bad Bunny’s lawyers argue that the sample was properly cleared with the producer Lakizo.
After emPawa Africa dropped out of the lawsuit due to ‘irreconcilable differences’, a judge dismissed the case for lack of prosecution. Bad Bunny’s lawyers are now seeking reimbursement for their legal fees, arguing that the lawsuit was ‘frivolous’ and ‘meritless from the beginning’. They claim that emPawa Africa used various tactics to ‘stall and delay’ the litigation, and that the company should be responsible for covering the costs of Bad Bunny’s defense.
