The 98th Oscars saw ‘Golden’ from KPop Demon Hunters make history by becoming the first K-pop song to win an Oscar. It also set records as the first song with more than four writers to win and the first best song winner where not all writers will receive an individual trophy. ‘Golden’ has seven credited writers, surpassing the previous limit of four co-writers for winning songs.
The song’s writers, including EJAE, Joong Gyu Kwak, and Yu Han Lee, are the first songwriters born in South Korea to win in this category. ‘Golden’ is not the only song to have set records in the best original song category, which has been presented since 1935. There are 25 other songs that have made their mark on the Oscars, paving the way for ‘Golden’s’ historic win.
